Jay East, CTA

Welcome and thank you for visiting my website.

I am a UKCP Registered Psychotherapist. I have  been working therapeutically with clients since 2004, completing my formal qualifications in 2011 as a Certified Transactional Analyst (CTA) with psychotherapy speciality. I am also a supervisor, gaining my Clinical Supervision certification in 2010. My practice with clients is  informed by my background as a State Registered Nurse (before entering into the psychotherapeutic  profession), facilitated and grounded by my life experiences both personal and professional.

I have studied many complementary trainings along the way to enhance my practice. I work therapeutically using Transactional Analysis (TA) integrating my many other complimentary trainings, depending upon their value to each individual client’s needs. I work online (Zoom) and face-to-face in a dedicated purpose built therapy space in Surrey U.K., where I am based

Transactional Analysis (TA) sits at the heart of my work as a therapist. Developed by Eric Berne in the 1950s, it is a well-established, humanistic approach that uses clear, accessible language to help make sense of our thoughts, feelings, and behaviours.

One of the things I value most about TA is how it can gently support people to understand themselves more deeply — their patterns, their relationships, and the ways they have learned to cope over time. Many of the people I work with find it both insightful and empowering, offering a way to explore their experiences with curiosity rather than judgement.

Through this understanding, TA can help bring awareness to patterns that may no longer feel helpful, and open up new possibilities for change. It can support you in developing a more compassionate relationship with yourself, as well as creating more fulfilling connections with others, and moving towards a way of living that feels more aligned with who you are.

Additional areas of interest studied

Supervision, Somatic Trauma Therapy, Embodied Relational Therapy, Wild Therapy, Radix, EMDR, DBT, Couples Therapy and Group facilitation. I also continue to undertake every year supportive trainings and therapeutically related workshops to enhance my practice and keep me abreast of current research.

Working with me can take many different forms. For some, it may feel more structured and focused, such as a cognitive-behavioural approach. For others, it may become a deeper, more exploratory psychotherapeutic journey — and often it’s something that gently unfolds in between. Together, we find a pace and way of working that feels right for you.

I work in a holistic and creative way, drawing on a range of approaches, including body psychotherapy where it may be helpful. I believe we are more than just our thoughts — we are a whole “body-mind.” Our bodies hold important information about our experiences, emotions, and patterns, often in ways we’re not consciously aware of. Learning to listen to these signals can be a valuable and supportive part of the therapeutic process.

Our nervous system also plays a central role in how we experience the world. It is shaped by our life experiences and influences how we respond to stress, connection, and safety. Bringing gentle awareness to this can open up new ways of understanding ourselves and support meaningful change.

When you begin therapy with me, your experience will be tailored to you — your needs, your history, and where you are right now in your life. Therapy can support you in exploring the different layers of what has brought you here, with care and at your own pace.

I don’t offer quick fixes, but I do offer a space where there is a potential for real, lasting change to happen. Often, as new insights emerge, you may find yourself moving in ways you hadn’t expected — towards something that feels more aligned, grounded, and true to you.
